February Update - February 2021

February has been a busy month again; a new guide has been posted to Reddit, the AE2 guide has also been moved, and another two guides started. The blog has also been changed, and each guide's dark mode style has also been tweaked.

New Guide: Draconic Evolution The Draconic Evolution Guide is up and has been posted to Reddit. As always, anyone can comment with any correction or with any information I might have missed. This guide will be up until the end of February before being moved to its own site.

This guide took a little longer but still managed to get it pushed out within a month, there is not much information on Draconic Reactors, but I managed to find a few reliable sources which seem to explain the reactor pretty well.

Guide Moved The AE2 guide has been moved to its own site; this can be found here and, as usual, has its own GitHub Repo allowing people to suggest changes. Any changes to the repo will also be sent to Discord so I can keep an eye on it. Dark mode updated The tables for each guide are now easier to read, thanks to a few tweaks within the theme.

Mod Pack Guide I had added a new Google doc that is public for people to comment on; this guide will be on the mod pack Enigmaticaa 2: Expert. I thought an expert pack would be a good challenge and a good starting point. Details on the pack and the guide can be found here

If this pack goes well, I will do more in the future. I am more than happy to add editors to the document, so please contact me if you are interested. I know this pack has a quest book system that helps guide people, but a text guide might give people a little more information and options.

Discord Changes I have removed each channel for each guide. Any errors or addition can be posted within the suggestion channel; I have also added a WIP channel for the new Mod Pack Guide. There has also been a rule channel added to clarify that we are not mod pack support and some general guidelines. There is also a channel for the new Mod Pack guide; as this guide is live and public, a channel should clarify any questions or confusion people may have.

I will be working on the Mekanism 10 Guide over the next few weeks and also tweaking the blog. The blog has also seen a facelift; I am working on the theme. Discord still needs a few more tweaks.

See you next month

Blood Magic Moved, New Guide, Patreon? Forums? - January 2021

This is the first of the monthly updates from me, I figured it would be good to let everyone know what I have been up to and what is going on behind the scenes here at Minecraftguides.net.

On the first of every month ill post an update about what has been going on and what is in the pipeline.

Dark mode Guides All guides have a “Dark mode” theme, this should make it easier on everyone’s eyes. I am still tweaking the theme as currently tables look a bit janky and I am not 100% happy with a few other aspects. This tweaking will be an ongoing process and will take a while to perfect.

Botania Moved I finally got round to moving the Botania guide, the guide can now be accessed at Minecraftguides.net/Botania. This guide also has its own repo so if there are any changes you would like to make make sure you head over to the Github Repo.

Discord Changes I kept missing updates from GitHub, so I have now added a discord bot that will ping me with any changes or requests so I can keep on top of everything. There will be a few channel changes coming to Discord in the next month but nothing too drastic.

Remember that the Discord is only intended for GUIDE support, for mod support you will have to visit each mods specific discord. Links for each mods Discord will be pinned in each channel.

Support Page A new support page has been added where you can find our PayPal and crypto links. Donations are always welcome but not necessary, I still want to be able to keep all the guides add free and hopefully with donations this will be possible.

More info can be found here: https://minecraftguides.net/support

Subdomains? I recently had the terrible idea of giving each guide its own subdomain. This terrible idea caused issues with people not finding URLs and caused more work for me.

This has now been reversed and all guides are always at the end of the URL (Minecraftguides.net/GUIDENAME). Each future guides will be like this. Not only is this easier but it also helps with SEO, the more people who find the guide the better.

I have also added all guides to one analytics property, this took some fiddling but gives me a better overview. I only use analytics to see which guides are the most popular and it also helps with error reporting.

What’s next? The Draconic Evolution guide should be done by the end of February and should be available for all to edit. The AE2 Guide is also in the process of being moved to its own site.

More guides are on their way and once Draconic Evolution is done ill move onto Mekinism as well as a Mod pack. The mod pack Guide will be public from the get-go so people can chip in a few ideas as I am writing, this will be a new type of guide that will unlike every other guide and will need to be tackled differently.

Planned Content Platform Upgrade September 2019

Using the current platform to post News and Updates is clunky. The existing site works great as a way to display static information but isn’t well suited for our News or Blog content.

The upgraded platform will be separate from the main site and more visually appealing without having to sacrifice speed, accessibility or looks.

This will allow more focus on posting and less work tinkering behind the scenes.

New Guides There are guides currently in the works but the one guide I was very eager to start was Blood Magic. I had seen Blood Magic elements in other people’s builds and always wondered what the mod was about and how it works. It remains one of the most popular mods for 1.7.10 and so I dove in and started documentation.

The Blood Magic guide took over a month to create with help from the official Blood Magic Discord and various outdated Youtube videos.

This guide has been a huge hit on Reddit and has had a constant stream of people on the Google Doc ever since it was first posted. Although we’ve put considerable time and effort into making it as useful as possible, we’re still polishing it here and there to improve it where we can.

Blood Magic works with another popular mod named Woot without having to download any other addon-mods. One of the expansions we are considering for our Blood Magic Guide would be information on Woot integration and how you can use Woot to enhance your Blood Magic creations.

Guide Features I have always wanted the guides to be a community project in the sense that anyone can submit editing proposals if there is information that needs updating. At first we hosted the proposed guides on Google Docs to allow collaboration, but unfortunately when you have large numbers of people collaborating on a Google Doc consistently, it suffers from crashing, freezing and performance issues. It’s a great tool for smaller projects but wasn’t working for something on our scale.

To solve this problem, we have enabled GitHub integration with every guide. This will enable anyone with a GitHub account (which is free) to suggest edits which we can review and push to the live site. Not only will this allow people to suggest edits but will also make editing guides a whole lot easier.

I have a few guides in the works and a list of proposals that I want to work on, time permitting. There are also a whole host of other plans and ideas for the future but all in good time.

I will be posting more here as I want to keep people in the loop about what is coming up. If you have any questions or suggestions, you can get in touch with us via Twitter, Reddit or on our Discord server.

Thank you!

Welcome to MinecraftGuides - July 2018

Welcome to the new home for all future Minecraft Text Guides. Gone are the days of trying to find the guides you are looking for on Reddit, via Google or watching long, out of date, YouTube videos. All future (and past) Minecraft Text Guides will be posted and hosted here, free of charge and without a single advert in sight!

You can see all of the current completed guides and work in progress guides here. Every work in progress guide is still on Google Docs, which means you can still contribute (if you want).

We have also opened up a Discord server and a Twitter account so you can get in touch with us about any guide errors, guide suggestions or just to say, “Hi.” We are continuing to work on the website by adding new features that make it easier to find, read and edit guides. We are also working on new guides as well.

We will update you as soon as anything gets added, changed, reworked, etc. We want to be as clear and transparent with everyone that reads our guides as possible.

We have big plans, such as offering guides in different languages, moving other guides to the platform and much more. For now, we are happy the site is up and that everyone can find the guide they are looking for.
